Benchmarks

Install times of the same formulae with nextbrew, Homebrew and other Homebrew-compatible clients, measured with bench/clients.sh.

  • Cold: the formula and its dependencies are not installed and no downloads are cached. Each client’s formula index is refreshed beforehand, untimed.
  • Warm: the formula is uninstalled again, and the downloads from the cold run are kept.
  • The order of the clients rotates from formula to formula, so no client always meets the CDN cold.
  • nanobrew runs with NANOBREW_DISABLE_UPSTREAM=1, so it installs Homebrew bottles like the others rather than upstream release binaries. It does not run post_install steps; the other clients do.
  • wax keeps no downloaded bottles, so its warm installs download again.
  • Totals count only the formulae every client installed.
